'First day in the OT'
It was the day, that probably I can never forget. My first day in the OT as an Intern... a truly unforgettable experience. Something that gives you goosebumps, you are ecstatic. When words can not describe your feelings, it was something like that.
Well, It was my first day in Obs/Gyn department, in second rotation of my internship. I was in obstetrics department. In obstetrics you are supposed to go for Deliveries.
I have already heard a lot about it. Aware of this fact very well that it is the most gruesome yet beautiful experience in the life of a woman, i.e. to procreate. In the entire mankind, only a woman have this priviledge.
Though, I have studied on this previously but witnessing it in-person, is altogether a different scenario.
It was a C-sec ( cesarean section) although it is considered to be less painful than natural parturition but no, it is not. Patient was given anesthesia, to subside the pain ( or not feel at all) but I could clearly see her body movements during the surgical procedure (even on anesthetics). Literally you can say she is in unconscious state but her movements were enough to get a idea of what she was going through.
After all the dissectioning when the baby finally taken out, with his head first ( It was a baby boy ) and his shrill yet soothening crying taken over entire OT, it was a moment of ecstasy, accomplishment and immense amazedness. Moment when you are literally short of words, you become numb for quite sometime. You get to wonder of human biology how wonderful it is.
I am grateful to Medicine to bestow upon me. I always believe, MOTHERS are the first and the only GOD to a child. Today I can say this more confidently.
